Postdoctoral Research Associate – SIMS/Cosmochemistry
The Center for Meteorite Studies at Arizona State University invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2017, but can be negotiated. The full-time, benefits-eligible position is renewable on an annual basis (July 1 – June 30) extending to a maximum of 3 years, contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. This position comes with a competitive salary and funding for travel to conferences. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in research involving analyses of volatile element abundances and D/H ratios in meteoritic materials using secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). In addition to two SIMS instruments (a Cameca IMS-6f and a Cameca Ametek NanoSIMS 50L), there are a variety of analytical facilities available at Arizona State University for detailed petrographic and geochemical analyses (including a state-of-the-art JEOL JXA-8530F electron microprobe, as well as ICPMS instruments for trace element and high precision isotope ratio analyses). The Center for Meteorite Studies also houses an extensive meteorite collection, with over 2000 distinct meteorites.
Minimum Qualifications: A Ph.D. in the physical sciences by the time of appointment. Applicants must be within five years of receipt of their doctoral degree to be considered eligible for this position.
