Marjalahti

Marjalahti is one of only 4 witnessed pallasite falls. Marjalahti fell June 1st, 1902, in what is now the Republic of Karelia, a federal subject of Russia. Approximately 45 kg were recovered. Upon examination, it was determined that the olivine crystals contained in this pallasite were of such consistently high purity that they should be adopted as a scientific standard for the composition of olivine (aka the gemstone peridot).
