Associate/Full Professor and Director Opportunity

The School of Earth and Space Exploration (https://sese.asu.edu) invites applications for a full-time, tenured position as Associate or Full Professor and Director of the Center for Meteorite Studies (CMS) with an anticipated start date of August 2020. The CMS mission is to create and share new knowledge in the field of meteoritics and allied disciplines through (1) curation and distribution of meteorites (2) cutting-edge research on planetary materials and (3) broad dissemination of the latest scientific results and the education of a wide cross section of society, including students, educators and the lay public. We are particularly interested in applicants with a research focus in meteoritics, cosmochemistry and planetary materials. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collegial faculty working to advance innovative research and excellence in teaching through its work with the diverse and growing undergraduate and graduate student population at Arizona State University. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a successful, externally-funded research program, engage undergraduate and graduate students through research and effective teaching, participate in service to the university and profession, and build productive relationships with faculty both within and beyond the School of Earth and Space Exploration. As director of the CMS, the successful candidate will be expected to guide research activities of CMS personnel, manage the meteorite collection for maximum scientific benefit, lead a major informal education and outreach resource and develop donations to the CMS.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in Geological Sciences, Chemistry, Astrophysics, Planetary Science or related field
  • Demonstrated potential to establish a productive, externally-funded research program in meteoritics or related fields
  • A record of or well-articulated commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
  • A research focus with the potential to advance the mission of the School of Earth and Space Exploration, especially in the areas of meteoritics, cosmochemistry or planetary materials
  • Experience with management, curation or analysis of meteorite or planetary materials collections
  • Demonstrated experience in informal education, public outreach, science communication and fund raising (development).
