Large Meteorite Found in Antarctica!

An international group of researchers has discovered the 5th-largest meteorite ever to be recovered from East Antarctica, a 40 lb ordinary chondrite.  You can read more about the discovery, and see photos of the expedition here!

Every year, scientists from around the world flock to Antarctica to collect meteorites.  CMS Director Meenakshi Wadhwa spent this winter in Antarctica, collecting meteorites as part of the Antarctic Search for Meteorites (ANSMET) 2012-2013 field season.  You can read her blogs from the field, as well as those of other ANSMET team members, here!
