The Buseck Center for Meteorite Studies is pleased to welcome Dr. Ren Marquez!
Marquez is the very first BCMS Meteorite Studies Postdoctoral Fellow. He has extensive experience in ultra-low-blank laboratory techniques for analyzing small meteorite samples, which he used during his PhD at the California Institute of Technology to study presolar precursors in primitive meteoritic components.
Dr. Marquez’s research at ASU will extend his existing work on presolar signatures to understand how these phases affect heterogeneity in bulk Solar System objects. He will be working primarily in the laboratories of SESE Professors Meenakshi Wadhwa and Larry Nittler.
Marquez is also the latest recipient of the Pellas-Ryder Award, which honors students who are first author of an outstanding planetary science paper published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal. The award is jointly sponsored by the Meteoritical Society and the Planetary Geology Division of the Geological Society of America.
